Description

A complete color palette to join Stephen West’s new Mystery Knit Along.

This kit includes a box of eight mini skeins of Merino de la Patagonia Superfine Fingering and the digital pattern for Color Kaleidoscope Shawl, the Westknits MKAL 2026.

Each box features eight colors, hand-dyed with natural dyes and carefully selected to work together. Some palettes play with contrast, while others explore a single color family or lean toward warmer or cooler tones.

At just 17.5 microns, our Superfine Fingering is exceptionally soft. Its two-ply construction provides definition and stability, making it ideal for the color changes and different techniques featured in the design.

The shawl will be revealed in four clues throughout October. As with every Mystery Knit Along, the final design remains a surprise while knitters around the world work through each clue together.

About the fiber

Verified regenerative origin. The fiber comes from Patagonian farms verified by Land to Market™, where measurable environmental outcomes such as soil health, biodiversity, and the water cycle are monitored.

The people who raise these flocks manage their land and animals by working with the cycles of nature, helping to create more diverse ecosystems, healthier soils, and a greater capacity for regeneration.

Quality and animal welfare. The wool is sourced directly from farms that meet OVIS XXI’s advanced wool-classing standards for Ultimate Merino Wool, as well as the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS).

The Ultimate Merino Wool designation identifies fiber that has been selected and classed at the source according to criteria for quality, traceability, and responsible management. These standards support practices that respect the sheep, the people, and the environment.

About the color

Our colored skeins are hand-dyed in small batches using natural dyes. This process may create subtle variations from one skein to another, which are part of the unique character of each color.

You can learn more about this ancestral technique in our article: Hand-dyeing with natural dyes.

Care

Hand wash in cold water using a pH-neutral detergent made specifically for wool. Do not soak or wring. Lay flat to dry in the shade.
